AT A GLANCE

Commissioning proves the system is complete, safe and working before the crew leaves.

Financiers want the named results: inverter on and reporting, monitoring assigned, storage tested.

One green icon is not commissioning. Each check needs its own proof.

What is included in solar commissioning?

In the order the crew makes them:

  • Complete and clean: every module mounted and wired, conduit supported, penetrations sealed, the equipment wall as drawn. Walk it with the plan set before energizing.
  • Electrical: the string and circuit checks the design calls for, polarity and continuity, grounding and bonding, disconnects and overcurrent protection in place and labeled. Record the test values.
  • Startup: the inverter up and reporting with no fault codes. Every microinverter or optimizer assigned and reporting.
  • Monitoring: the site created under the right name and address, owner and installer registered, access set the way the financier needs.
  • Storage: battery and gateway commissioned, registered to the correct company where required, backup behavior tested, summary screens captured.

What commissioning photos do financiers want?

States are proved by photos and screenshots taken at the moment:

  • The inverter display or app showing production and no faults.
  • The monitoring platform showing the site, its registration and its reporting.
  • The storage summary screens, in full.
  • The network and connection states the financier's checklist names.
  • The serial plate of every module, inverter, battery and gateway, legible at review size.
  • The labels and placards as applied.

Two habits decide whether these survive review. Legibility: a serial plate shot in shadow, at an angle, or from too far is a label that cannot be read, the most common send-back across financiers. Completeness: capture the display after the self-test, both halves of a scrolling summary page, and every battery's label, not only the first.

When does equipment registration have to be done?

Registration happens in the manufacturer's app, and each financier places it differently. Sunrun's general checklist places it with the second milestone, and its storage guidance asks for the gateway to be assigned to Sunrun before permission to operate. LightReach folds it into activation. A project can carry an earlier deadline than the general rule.

Record two facts separately: when the financier requires registration, and whether it is done. One checkbox for both is how a package goes out with registration pending and comes back three weeks later.

Why was my activation milestone rejected?

LightReach publishes its reasons: view-only monitoring access, unassigned microinverters, negative home loads, open alerts on the site. Across financiers the common ones are a serial plate that cannot be read, a registration not done, and a summary screen captured in part. Each is a commissioning step done but not proved, or proved but not done.

Before the package goes

R11 takes on the preparation, corrections, and follow-up agreed for the engagement. Bring the records you have. We define the result, the authorized work, and anything that still needs your team.

The prepared handoff keeps the supporting evidence and the next decision together. Your team authorizes submission. The financier decides approval and payment.
