Sunrun and R11

Sunrun is the largest residential solar company in the United States. For many contractors it is also the third-party owner that finances the systems they install and pays them in milestones as a project moves from contract to grid connection.

Where it stops

For a contractor with real Sunrun volume, Sunrun is often the single biggest payor in the book, which quietly makes its review queue the pace-setter for the whole company's cash. Its milestone naming and document standards are its own, so the office ends up running a Sunrun-shaped tracker beside everything else, and the answer to where the Sunrun money is lives in that spreadsheet rather than on the jobs themselves. When the person who maintains it is out, so is the answer.

What R11 does with it

• Sunrun milestones are recorded as Sunrun reports them, on the date it reports them, and never inferred from how far along the install looks.
• Sunrun jobs sit on the same board as every other job, so payor concentration is something you can see rather than something you reconstruct.
• What is still outstanding is visible on the day it becomes outstanding, which is the point at which you can still do something about it.

Does R11 submit to Sunrun for us?

R11 assembles and tracks the work around a submission and records what Sunrun reports back. Acting inside a financier's system on your behalf is a line worth not crossing: when money is involved, the record of who did what should never be ambiguous.

Can R11 tell us when Sunrun will pay?

R11 shows what Sunrun has reported and what is still outstanding, and stops there. A predicted funding date is worse than no date at all once somebody plans payroll against it, and every system that offers one is quietly transferring that risk to you.

We run Sunrun alongside other funders. Does that work?

Yes, and it is the normal case. Each funder's milestones are recorded in that funder's own terms rather than flattened into one scheme, because the same label means different things at different funders. See the other financier pages for how that plays out.
